    Reporting on Green Procurement

    This supplementary information table supports reporting on green procurement activities in accordance with the Policy on Green Procurement.

    1. Context

    Although the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is not bound by theFederal Sustainable Development Act and is not required to develop a full Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy (DSDS), the TSB adheres to the principles of the Federal Sustainable Development Strategy (FSDS) by complying with the Policy on Green Procurement.
    The Policy on Green Procurement supports the Government of Canada’s effort to promote environmental stewardship. In keeping with the objectives of the policy, the TSB supports sustainable development by integrating environmental performance considerations into the procurement decision-making process through the actions described in the 2019 to 2022 FSDS “Greening Government” goal.

    Promote use of wifi and use of teleconferencing / videoconferencing resources for meetings
    • All employees have been provided with mobile computing devices and mobile phone where possible, along with software and tools to support teleconferencing

    • Target: 50% reduction of paper use from the 2019/20 baseline
    • Target: Telepresence or Skype availability is arranged/announced for all meetings calling for attendance from multiple sites
    For 2020-21, the availability of teleparticipation was arranged, and announced for all meetings. Although much of this result can be attributed to the COVID response, the TSB already had the tools in place and has continued to enhance them in 2020-21. The reopening strategy includes a significant use of telepresence tools. Paper use was reduced by 97.3% from the 2019/20 baseline.     Acquire new types of furniture via GCtransfer; Dispose of surplus furniture by offering on GCtransfer and GCsurplus
    • GCtransfer and GCsurplus are the place of choice for acquiring new furniture not already available within TSB. New purchases via SOSA/SA proceeds only when it has been impossible to find what is required on GCtransfer or GCsurplus; Surplus furniture is listed for reuse on those sites.
    • Performance indicator: Quantity of furniture pieces reused via GCtransfer or GCsurplus.
    • Target: new furniture acquisitions are sought from GCtransfer for a minimum of one month prior to considering other options
    • Target: all surplus furniture is advertised on GCtransfer or GCsurplus for a minimum of two weeks
    There was no furniture purchase in 2020-21. Supporting reuse of furniture between Government Departments

    3. Report on integrating sustainable development

    During the 2020–21 reporting cycle, TSB had no proposals that required a strategic environmental assessment (SEA) and no public statements were produced.
